Barnsbook™'s breeding system tracks the full reproductive cycle — from breeding date to calving to weaning. All breeding and calving features are available on every plan, including the free tier.
Breeding Tracker
Open Breeding Tracker from More > Farm Management. When you record a breeding event, you can capture:
- Dam — the female being bred, selected from your livestock list
- Sire — the male used, either from your herd or a registered sire by name
- Breeding date — when the breeding occurred
- Breeding method — natural service, artificial insemination (AI), or embryo transfer
- Expected due date — automatically calculated based on species gestation length
- Notes — any observations about the breeding
Barnsbook calculates the expected due date from the breeding date using standard gestation periods for each species.
Pregnancy Tracker
Pregnancy Tracker (More > Farm Management) shows all females currently bred or pregnant, their expected due dates, days remaining until calving, and pregnancy history. You can update the status of each animal as events occur — confirmed pregnant by palpation or ultrasound, open, or aborted.
Use the Pregnancy Tracker before breeding season to review last year's conception rates and identify which females did not settle.
Calving Records
When a calf is born, open Calving Records (More > Farm Management) to log the event. You can record:
- Dam and sire — automatically pulled from the breeding record if one exists
- Calving date and time
- Calving ease score — unassisted, slight assist, needed assist, difficulty, caesarean
- Birth weight — in lbs or kg
- Calf sex
- Calf tag number and EID
- Calf status — alive, stillborn, or died after birth
- Colostrum fed — whether the calf received colostrum
- Notes — any complications or observations
After recording the calving, Barnsbook adds the calf as a new animal in your livestock list with its dam and sire already linked for pedigree tracking.
Weaning Tracker
The Weaning Tracker (More > Farm Management) shows calves that are approaching or have passed their target weaning age. When you record a weaning event, Barnsbook updates the calf's lifecycle stage, logs the weaning weight, and calculates days on dam and weaning ADG for performance records.
Pedigree Views
The Pedigree feature (More > Farm Management) displays a visual family tree for any animal in your herd. You can see sire, dam, grandsire, and granddam. This is built automatically from your calving and breeding records — no separate data entry required. Tap any animal in the tree to jump to their full record.
Fertility Reports Premium
Access Fertility Reports from More > Analytics & Forecasts (Premium). This report analyzes your breeding records to show conception rates, calving intervals, pregnancy rates by sire, and AI versus natural service performance. Use it to evaluate sire quality and identify low-conception females in your herd.
Heat Detection Premium
The Heat Detection AI tool (More > AI Tools) analyzes breeding cycle data and estrus patterns to predict when females are most likely to be in heat. This helps you time AI breeding for better conception rates and reduce the number of breeding attempts needed per pregnancy.
