This is a checklist, not a calendar of rules. It points to the screens that help with the three jobs that pile up from late fall through winter. Where a tool needs a paid plan, it says so.

Winter feeding and hay costs

1
Enter what is in the barn: More → Feed Management → Add Feed for each hay lot and grain, with quantity, unit (tons, bales, pounds or bags) and cost per unit.
2
Log each feeding so inventory and cost per head stay current. Check Insights for this month against last month and cost by animal group.
3
Check pasture and stocking before you buy: Pro Forage Calculator shows dry matter, carrying capacity and days remaining.
4
Turn on Low Feed Inventory notifications. Premium Feed Depletion Forecast and Ration Balancer help you order before you run out and balance a ration against requirements.
5
Record hay and grain purchases as expenses in the Feed category so they land on your Schedule F report. See Expenses & revenue.

Calving and lambing season

1
Make sure every bred female has a breeding record so due dates are on the books (cattle 283 days, sheep and goats 150). Open More → Breeding Tracker or Pregnancy Tracker.
2
Turn on Calving/Birthing Due and Pregnancy Check in Notification Preferences. The Home screen also lists active pregnancies.
3
Premium Open Calving Watch for a risk-scored list of who is due tonight, this week and this month, with a monitoring level for each. Share it as a PDF for whoever is checking the barn.
4
When a birth happens, tap Mark Delivered and Log Birth, or add a Calving Record with the ease score and birth weight. Choose to add the newborn to the herd so it is linked to its dam and sire.
5
Record the newborn's treatments and vaccinations as health records, and use a chute session when you work several at once.
6
Later, the Weaning Tracker shows who is ready to wean.

Year-end taxes

1
Catch up on entries: log expenses and record sales. Check each expense's category and the Tax Deductible switch. Note the free plan counts 50 expenses per calendar month.
2
Pro Open Tax & Deductions. Pick the tax year, review the Profit & Loss summary and the Schedule F breakdown by line, and read the quarterly estimate.
3
From October through December the screen also lists Year-End Strategies: prepayment ideas to discuss with your preparer before December 31. Missed Deductions are general prompts to review, not amounts you are owed.
4
Export Schedule F as CSV, QuickBooks (IIF) or Xero (CSV), or create the PDF summary, and send it to your accountant.
5
Keep Tax Deadlines notifications on for quarterly estimated tax reminders, and store receipts and paperwork in Documents.
Not tax advice: BarnsBook organizes records and estimates numbers. It is not tax advice. Have a qualified tax professional review your return.
